Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith for Haymarket Baptist Church and Haymarket Baptist Church Preschool & KindergarteN

We believe that there is one living and true God, revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is the personal Being, Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of His universe. (John 1:3, 4, 16, 17; James 1:17; Psalm 16:2, John 10:30; Matthew 28:19, Genesis 1:1)

We believe the Holy Bible is the divinely inspired record of God’s revelation of Himself to man.  It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error, for its matter.  It is the sole authority for faith, truth and practice for right living. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21)

We believe that man is created by God in His own image (Genesis 1:27, Matthew 19:4, Mark 10:6) as male and female, and endowed them with a freedom of choice.  Because of his freedom, man sins, and only the grace of God (forgiveness of our sin by Christ’s death on the cross and man’s choice to accept this grace) can bring man into His holy fellowship. 

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the one Mediator through whom man is reconciled to God (Romans 3:23, 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8,9; John 3:16-21, 10:33 and 14:16)

We believe in the virgin birth of Christ (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrew 4:15/16, 7:26), His vicarious and atoning death for us (I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His Resurrection (John 11:25, I Corinthians 15:4), His Ascension to heaven after the resurrection (Mark 16:19), His return to earth in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, sent by God and whose ministry is to dwell inside the Christian and help him/her live a godly life.  (Romans 8:13-14, I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20, John 3:16-19, Ephesians 4:30, 5:18, and Titus 3:5)

We believe we are saved by faith in the shed blood of Christ alone, not by works. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

We believe in the resurrection of the saved and the lost.  The saved and believing will be resurrected after death to eternal life in heaven with God.  Those that are lost and unbelieving will be resurrected after death to eternal life without God, condemned. (John 5:28-29)

We believe that marriage can only exist between one man and one woman. (Gen 2:24, Matt 19:4-5)

We believe in the unity of believers in Jesus Christ.(Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 2:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28)
